This is a wonderful opportunity to see first hand our host community and environment - a magnificent ecotourism experience. The tour takes you from Hindmarsh Island through our private property across the barrages onto Mundoo and Ewe Islands.
Mundoo Island History
Mundoo Island is a 3,000 acre island situated in the heart of the Murray mouth and Elandooa Channel region. Mr Thomas Dodd started using Mundoo Island to run sheep in 1842.
Mr Walter Grundy purchased Mundoo Island in 1920. His son, Jack Grundy was handed over the property in 1923. In 1950 Jack went into partnership with his son, Peter. The property is currently operated by Peter's son Colin Grundy.

Farm Activities and Animals
Our main commercial interest is Angus beef cattle produced predominantly for the Japanese market. Often we hand feed orphaned calves to give them a chance at life. They are later returned to the paddock to mix with the mob. Horses are used for mustering and other cattle work on the islands. We breed our own horses and break them in as they are required.
Abundant Birdlife
As a result of generations of our family caring for our environment, our unique islands have an abundance of birdlife. We are bounded by the freshwater of Lake Alexandrina on one side and the saltwater of the Elandooa Channel on the other.
The nearby Coorong is a wetland of international importance playing host to 12 species of international migratory birds and is the largest breeding habitat of the Australian Pelican. Approximately 85 species of waterbirds have been recorded in the region including plovers, dotterels, ducks, swan, Cape Barren geese and ibis.
Artists & Bird Watchers
Special rates are available for bird watch groups or groups of artists who would like to spend an hour painting or bird watching. Artists will just love the scenery including sand dunes, the waters of the Coorong, birds and cattle.
